John Curtis Adkins, 53, and two men left Garibaldi, Ore., during the holiday weekend on a 48-foot fishing vessel, said Lt. Gregg Hastings of the Oregon State Police.
The men all arrived at the Port of Ilwaco on the southern Washington coast, but only two of them made the return trip to Oregon.
Police Chief Flint Wright of the Long Beach, Wash., department said Adkins was reported to be alone when he left a tavern down the street from the port at about 1 a.m. on July 5. It was the last sighting of the fisherman who, according to Wright, co-owns the boat named "Tiger" with one of the other men who made the trip.
The other fishermen told investigators they decided to head back to Garibaldi later that day after Adkins failed to show up at the boat. Adkins, who lives in Albany, Ore., was reported missing by his brother on July 7.
Wright said the men who went on the trip with Adkins are considered witnesses, not suspects. He added that there’s no evidence a crime has been committed. "It’s still a missing person with suspicious circumstances," he said.
